Care of Crystal

Caring for crystal is a delicate and important task. With proper handling and care your crystal can be passed down from generation to generation.

Handling-

Always handle your crystal by holding on to the stem of the glass. This will help to keep the glass steady as you are carrying it.

Cleaning-

Never dry dust your crystal. The dust particles can scratch the crystal. When washing, line your sink with a towel or rubber mat. This prevents breaking if you should drop the crystal in the sink. Always hand wash your crystal. Clean with mild detergent and warm water. Be sure to rinse with warm water as well. Sudden change in temperature can cause the crystal to crack. Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth. Leaving crystal to air dry will cause water spots and streaking. Add a little vinegar to the dishwater to help eliminate water spots.

Storing -

Always store crystal where it won't touch other items. Ne ver store upside down, puts pressure on the rim, which is very delicate. For long-term storage, use soft cloth, bubble wrap or similar materials to wrap the crystal in. Avoid contact with newspaper or other moisture-absorbing materials.

Fixing -

If your crystal breaks and you think you can still save it, use a clean dry, epoxy glue that was made for glass. After gluing the piece back together let it sit in the sun for a bit to help with the bonding.

Crystal is a beautiful piece of work to have and with a bit of care it will last for many generations.
